According to a report over at Digitimes.com, recently announced AMD Z-60 Hondo APU will start appearing in tablets mid-November, 2012. Although officially announced and expected to launch alongside Windows 8, the exact date when we could see actual devices based on it has not been officially announced.
AMD promised some quite impressive specs and features for the APU and this 1GHz clocked dual-core with 1MB of L2 cache and 80 stream processors will support 1080p, have USB 3.0, battery life of up to 2 weeks in sleep mode, up to 6 hours of video playback, and use up to 1.57W in HD video playback mode. AMD also promised 10mm thick tablets with its Z-60 APU.
The company also shared some info on 3DMark06 and PCMark Vantage performance. The Z-60 APU wins in 3DMark and loses only slightly in PCMark Vantage benchmarks, making it quite an impressive little APU.
Of course, even before the official launch of Windows 8, which is scheduled for October 26th, the market is ready for already announced and incoming tablets based on Intel/ARM Windows 8 Pro/RT combinations. The good part is that tablets based on AMD's APU might end up slightly cheaper than Intel based ones.
