Friendly Elec has released its open source NanoPi R5C for $49 starting price.

Dubbed the NanoPi R5C the cheap PC is powered by a Arm A55 quad-core CPU Rockchip RK3568B2. The entry-level configuration is not that exciting -- just 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, but if you shell out another $10 will get you 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.  It can run Android and a number of Linux distros.

The size is 62.5 x 62.5 x 29mm and some models come with a pair of optional Wi-Fi antennae and a Realtek RTL8822CE Wi-Fi 5 M.2 E-Key slot module. A fully-assembled system with antennae weighs almost 6 ounces (170g).

Friendly Elec says the NanoPi is a "mini IoT gateway device" so it has two 2.5Gb/s Ethernet ports, an HDMI 2.0, 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, 1x microSD card reader with support for UHS-I cards, 1x USB Type-C (5V). The M.2 E-Key slot (1x PCIe 2.1, USB 2.0 support), which accepts devices such as Wi-Fi cards.

A microSD card slot, which supports OS boot and you can also install an OS on the NanoPi R5C using a USB cable attached to your PC, or a TF card and a web browser.
