The Low Power Double Data Rate 5 Turbo is a sequel to the Low Power Double Data Rate 5X unveiled late last year. It is a stop gap between the end of the trilogy which will be called Low Power Double Data Rate 6 (where we expect all the characters will be killed off(.
The 5T runs at 9.6 Gbps, which is 13 per cent quicker than the 5X model. It’s compliant with JEDEC requirements and runs at an ultra-low 1.01-1.12V range, allowing it to deliver fast performance while using as little power.
SK Hynix has dished out 16GB multi-chip package samples to customers. THese apparently can manage 77GB of data per second with the wind behind them and going downhill.
It hopes to bring the 5T chip into production later this year using a 10nm process and its HKMG (High-K Metal Gate) process.
