Garmin smartwatches borked

Timeless boot screen

Garmin smartwatch users are complaining that their watches are stuck in a never-ending boot screen featuring a so-called “blue triangle of death.”

Others complain they are getting a typical boot screen from which they can’t escape.

According to the r/Garmin subreddit the issue appears to be widespread across countries and devices. The issue impacts watches from the Epix, Venu, Forerunner, Descent, and Fenix lineups and there are rumours that the Venu 3 model might have problems too.

Users report that resetting the device was able to “fix” it, but subsequently, it’s been stuck in a continuous boot loop.

Garmin has said that it is aware of the issue, and the bug appears to be related to starting any GPS activities.

A spokesGarmin Natalie Miller said: “Garmin is researching reports of devices displaying a blue triangle when starting a GPS activity. A reset by pressing and holding the power button may restore functionality. We will provide more information on a permanent fix when available.”

The Garmin Support Center page also displays a similar message but notes that any fix may be temporary.

Some Garmin users have anecdotally shared that non-GPS activities do not trigger the boot loop. So until Garmin issues an official fix, it’s probably best to stick to non-GPS activities.
