Asus ROG Ally officially launched

by on11 May 2023

Ryzen Z1 Extreme version available in June for $699

Asus has now officially revealed all the specifications and the release date for its ROG Ally handheld console powered by AMD Ryzen Z1 series APUs. As you already know, there will be two versions, faster powered by AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU, and less expensive but significantly slower version, powered by Ryzen Z1 APU.

The faster Z1 Extreme version of the ROG Ally is now available for pre-order and will be shipping on June 13th, priced at $699 in the US and €799 in most of Europe. The less expensive ROG Ally with Ryzen Z1 APU will cost $599/€699 and comes in Q3. Other than the Ryzen Z1 series APU difference and, apparently, storage difference (512GB vs 256GB), both versions pretty much share the same specifications. The APUs are paired up with 16GB of LPDDR5-6400 memory.

In case you missed it earlier, the AMD Ryzen Z1 Etxreme APU packs an 8-core/16-thread Zen 4 CPU part and RDNA3 GPU with 12 Compute Units, while the AMD Ryzen Z1 APU ends with 6-core/12-thread Zen 4 CPU and RDNA 3 GPU with only 4 Compute Units. The Z1 Extreme also works on higher clocks and there is a significant graphics performance difference between the two versions, with the Z1 Extreme providing up to 8.6 TFLOPs and the Z1 version giving out just 2.9 TFLOPs.
