According to an overzealous Rockstar North employee who was not exactly watching what he was posting on LinkedIn, he has confirmed what other sources have been suggesting to us. Rockstar is targeting the release of Grand Theft Auto V for October.

While this is good news for GTA fans, we are not sure how accurate it might be given the fact that several other high-profile titles are scheduled for release in October; and it could be that publisher Take-Two may move the release into early 2013 just to make sure that it has little to compete with.

With Max Payne 3 coming next month, it would be very strange for Rockstar to deliver two block buster titles is such close release of each other. Still the move could be very helpful to the company’s bottom line and really pump Take-Two’s end of the year sales up. We will have to wait and see how this plays out, but it could have more to do with how close GTA V is as far as being finished and polished for release, rather than when Take-Two would like it to be released.
