After surprising everyone last year with the Arc B580 and B570 — launched into a rare vacuum as AMD and Nvidia stalled on new releases — Intel's GPU plans had gone conspicuously quiet.
That silence was starting to feel like a retreat. But now, thanks to a job posting unearthed by sleuth @Haze2K1, Intel appears to be prepping GDDR7 integration into future Arc hardware.
The post doesn’t name a product, but all signs point to Celestial, Intel’s post-Battlemage generation. Battlemage, still stuck on GDDR6, looks like the stepping stone, while Celestial is shaping up to be the platform where Intel tries to go toe-to-toe with the usual suspects.
Variants based on BMG-G31 silicon are also floating around, suggesting that Intel hasn’t ditched Battlemage yet. If anything, it’s hedging its bets while building out a more competitive discrete GPU lineup behind the scenes.
Intel’s most recent Arc driver update already delivered performance fixes for “B-series” cards and several newer game titles, showing the software team hasn’t checked out either.
With GDDR7 on the table and Celestial looming, Intel might finally be preparing to take this market seriously. But as always with Chipzilla’s forays outside CPUs, the proof will be in whether any of it ships on time — and at performance levels that don’t trigger buyer’s remorse.
