Photos and videos of an unannounced 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M4 chip continue to surface on social media, and the Tame Apple Press is having problems because their handlers had not told them about it.
MacRumors' Joe Rossignol said the idea of a next-generation MacBook Pro was shared on YouTube Shorts today by Russian channel Romancev768, just one day after another Russian channel shared a similar video.
The clip shows a box for a 14-inch MacBook Pro configured with an M4 chip, a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, three Thunderbolt 4 ports, and a Space Black finish.
According to the "About This Mac" software menu shown in the video, the MacBook Pro is allegedly an unreleased November 2024 model.
Given that the source is Russian, we do not think it is likely that Apple made an effort to leak the product itself. It usually would do that to one of its chums in the Tame Apple Press and only then with strict NDAs about what they can say or when. As a rule of thumb we dont report on those sorts of leaks because they clearly are not. Since both Apple and its Tame Apple Press are furious at this leak we think it has legs.
The technology involved is less important than the fact that Apple’s culture of secrecy has let it down again. The last time we saw this, Gizmodo obtained and shared photos of an iPhone 4 prototype that a then-employee of the company accidentally left behind at a bar in California.
It is fair to say that in that case, Apple behaved very badly and called the cops.
