Dubbed the Quantum Artificial Intelligence Lab, the computer will look at machine learning, which is the way computers take note of patterns of information to improve their outputs. The big idea is to come up with personalized Internet search and predictions of traffic congestion based on GPS data. This is also handy for facial or voice recognition, biological behaviour, or the management of very large and complex systems.
Google’s blog said that if the world wants to create effective environmental policies, it needs better models of what’s happening to our climate. Otherwise there will not be compelling evidence for big business and their political right-wing sock-puppets to ignore, we guess.
Google said it had already devised machine-learning algorithms that work inside the quantum computer, which is made by D-Wave Systems. This year D-Wave sold its first commercial quantum computer to Lockheed Martin. Lockheed officials said the computer would be used for the test and measurement of things like jet aircraft designs, or the reliability of satellite systems.
