One of the names being thrown around is that of Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsen Huang and no, this is not an April Fools. The report comes from Mike Magee over at techeye.net, citing sources at Santa Clara, so it’s not just another crazy rumour like the ones peddled a few months ago.
Huang has tons of experience in the industry and let’s not forget that he managed to turn Nvidia from a two bit graphics chip maker into a powerhouse in just over a decade. He clearly has the credentials, but it is still unclear whether he is interested in taking up the offer.
If Huang has been approached, it would certainly raise a few eyebrows at Intel. Most observers believe Intel will appoint a CEO from its own ranks, someone like Dadi Perlmutter. Any decision to look outside the company could irk quite a few people, who believe they have a shot at Otellini’s vacant seat. The decision to approach Huang, or leak Intel’s advances, might be indicative of a power struggle at Santa Clara, but at this point it’s anyone’s guess.
It must be said that the prospect of Intel steered by Huang sounds very amusing. Think of all the fanboy banter and AMD-NV flame wars that might be coming our way.
