Research in Motion is planning to cut as many as 2,000 jobs worldwide as part of its restructuring effort.

The maker of Blackberry phones has seen better days, as it is struggling to compete with iOS and Android. The move comes as no surprise, as RIM already announced plans to streamline operations and save up to $1 billion this financial year.

Last July RIM announced a similar round of redundancies, cutting 2,000 jobs, or 11 percent of its workforce. The company is believed to employ about 16,500 at the moment.
