Despite getting hammered in the European market, thanks to a financial crisis and snowstorms, Acer has reported high earnings last year. In an e-mailed statement Acer said that net income jumped 32.5 percent year-on-year to $476 million last year which is a record high.
Operating income grew 18.6 percent while consolidated revenue rose 9.7 percent also a historical high, Acer said. Despite the awful weather, Acer has been suffering because of the New Taiwan dollar’s appreciation against the US dollar.
It did not say how this had eroded its bottom line. It only said in the statement that it used an average exchange rate of NT$31.652 last year, compared with NT$32.9494 in 2009 when it calculated things.
Acer is the number three PC maker in the world and is supposed to be suffering from the death of netbooks, thanks to the rise of the iPad.
