Softbank spills the beans

None other than Softbank leaked the fact that Snapdragon 855, a chipset that will power the Galaxy S10 and other top Android phones in 2019 which will come with Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem.

Triples the speed from last demo

Snapdragon X24 is a huge step forward getting the connection on your phone up to 2 Gbps, but 5G will be faster. Qualcomm has just announced that an X50 modem can get you to 4.51 Gbps speeds and probably faster by the launch day.

The spec still has to be locked down 

3GPP, 3rd Generation Partnership Project, has launched the 3GPP official 5G logo and said that it should have the spec sorted out by 2018.

4×4 MIMO and QAM 256 are the first step in the USA

Back in September, T-Mobile in the US announced that it supports 4×4 MIMO as well as QAM 256 on the download and QAM 64 on the upload side. The first phone to get this support was the Samsung Galaxy S7 and it looks like in 2017, T mobile will get you to 1Gbps class speeds or speeds up to 979 Mbps.

The Snapdragon X50 is a chipset that might speed up the introduction of 5G worldwide. The 5G is going to influence us in so many ways that even the head of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, has mentioned 5G EU plans and deployment by 2020.

Snapdragon X50 comes next year

Qualcomm has surprised the audience at the 4G/5G summit this week in Hong Kong by launching the world’s first 5G modem. The Snapdragon X50, as it is called, supports operations in the millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum in the 28GHz band.
