Nvidia's Jen-Hsun Huang talks about Geforce GRID
To do for games what cable TV did for video
According to The Verge, Nvidia's CEO Jen-Hsun Huang has high hopes for Nvidia Geforce GRID, a new Nvidia technology that will stream video games to any connected device.
During the company's annual investor meeting, Jen-Hsun Huang said that they believe this will do for video games what cable television did for video". In case you missed it, the Geforce GRID is not the actual cloud gaming service but rather a hardware piece based on Nvidia's Kepler GPU that should, at least according to Nvidia, lower latency by reducing every aspect of the process, including render time and encoding and decoding times. This should bring latencies that are even lower than the one on current game consoles.
It will certainly be interesting to see Geforce GRID in action but we guess we will have to wait a bit longer to see it implemented by some of Nvidia Geforce GRID partners like Gaikai and Onlive.
